Bibliotherapy
As a children’s and school librarian for more than two decades, it is almost impossible for me to limit my recommendations for children down to a simple list. Instead, listed below in this very incomplete list, are personal favorites that I have shared with children and have frequently recommended to parents and children. Some deal with specific issues, while others are dreamy and imaginative providing a special feast for the subconscious mind.
Also, I strongly recommend folk tales (the 398s) and myths (290s) from around the world so the wisdom of our collective human spirit, the symbols and metaphors, can be explored.
Additionally, I highly encourage children and adults to read poetry, for when reading poetry aloud, our body, mind and spirit are deeply and richly nourished.
